Olumayowa Akinkuehinmi, a network engineer, has accused the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of refusing to refund his £304 nine months after failed Covid-19 tests.
Akinkuehinmi told FIJ that he paid the NCDC in November 2021 for two of his sisters-in-law to be tested for Covid-19 as they were to return to Lagos from London but nothing was done until he paid for another test.

The network engineer stated that while filling out the details of his relatives, he made a mistake on the date of birth and the spelling of the last name, which then prevented his in-laws from being tested.
“Immediately after I realised I made a mistake, I reached out to the NCDC. At this time, they still had two days before travelling. NCDC sent a link for me to amend my errors, but it was a dead one,” Akinkuehinmi told FIJ.
He said that he reached out to the NCDC after discovering that the link was not working, but he got no immediate response.

“At some point, NCDC replied and asked if I wanted a refund, but after replying, I neither got a refund nor any message to date,” he said.
“I have been trying to reach out to them to get my refunds, but all efforts have proved abortive. There has been no response from the NCDC. I have reached out to Lagos Biobank, their consortium, but no response.”
FIJ sent a text message to the NCDC via one of the numbers on their website, but they did not respond.
