She told FIJ that she asked to know why Nwakwor refused to obey the order, but instead of a response, he began to slap and beat her until she lost consciousness.

“He has his own shop far behind my shop. But he would leave his shop and come to the main road in front of my shop. Usually, he would come and spread his goods in front of my shop because this place is at the center of the market and it is good for business. I had gone to the palace many times to complain and he had been summoned and told to go back to his shop, but he refused,” she said.

Adeola said she had confronted him many times, explaining to him it was unfair that he prevented her from selling when he was not the actual owner of the space and shop but he only abused and threatened her.

“I confronted him yesterday when he came to block the road again and I told him that if he didn’t want to listen to the King, wouldn’t he listen to God who was being used to beg him? He was threatening me again and I told him that I didn’t want him in front of my shop again. He started slapping and hitting me strongly. I did not know what he used to hit me, but blood started coming out of my mouth and face,” she said.

Adeola told FIJ that she was currently receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital. She also said her family had filed a report at the police station. An eyewitness told FIJ that the police were currently searching for Nwankwor, who had gone into hiding since the incident.

When FIJ contacted Sunday Abutu, Ekiti State Police PRO, on the case, he said there was an assault on the said date and that the case was under investigation. “The command got the report through a petition and we are currently investigating. Although the alleged suspect is currently on the run, as soon as he is apprehended, he will be prosecuted,” he said.
