Americans aren’t tall and big, though. That would actually be the Dutch, Germans, and many eastern Europeans. Americans are a short people, averageing only 5′10″ for males and 5′5″ for females. However, heightism is a big issue in America as well and the tall are perceived as socially superior and are treated as such. So men 6′1″ and up and women 5′9″ and up get treated much much better than their short peers. Tallness conveys confidence, a sense of leadership, strength, and superiority, whether this is true of the person’s character or not. Likewise, being short conveys weakness, smallness, frailty, immaturity, and inexperience like a child, regardless if this is true or not.
So tall is good and short is bad, even though most people are not tall and are short. In the caste system, the talls represent the cultural elite while the short represent the unwashed masses and mediocre everyday people
Are Americans The Tallest People On earth ?
They’re not.
According to the CDC’s most recent height charts (2,000+ people), the average height of an American male is 5′9.5″. Caucasian males average 5′10.2″, and Non-Hispanic (black) males average 5′9.5″
Americans were once one of the tallest, but, for some reason, ended up falling far behind, and only experienced a minor increase in average height over the past 100 years
